Make your site private

Updated 9 July 2026

If your club prefers to keep everything off the public internet - or you just want privacy while you build - you can gate the entire site behind one password.

Turning it on

  1. Open Club Settings and find the Public Site section.
  2. Under site privacy, switch from Open to Password Protected.
  3. Set a site password (at least 8 characters - use the generate button for a strong one).
  4. Save.

From that moment every visitor sees a password screen before any page of your site, and hands the password over once - their browser stays unlocked on return visits.

What it affects

  • Everything on the site - pages, event pages, route pages. One gate for the lot.
  • Search engines are locked out too: a protected site is not indexed and its sitemap switches off, so it won't turn up in Google while private.
  • You - the gate applies to your own visits outside the admin site as well, so keep the password handy.

Changing or removing it

Change the password any time (everyone gets asked for the new one) or switch back to Open to go public - handy for a big reveal once the site's ready.

Only need to protect one page, like a members' area? Use a page password instead.
